October
21 Happy Birthday, Corbyn Coyle

Principal’s Points:
Having a live miniature donkey named Zack for assembly last Thursday was a real treat. Zack was making a national tour with the presenters, Pastor and Mrs. Brown, from the northwest. Their message went along perfectly with the national “Anti-Bullying” emphasis and our fruit of the Spirit theme of “Peace” for the month of October. The title of the program was “Don’t Let Conflict Make a Donkey Out of You!”. Zack panned for gold and did other tricks. There was student participation and a souvenir postcard given to each student. A fast-moving quiz with lights and buzzers was played with Elle Colburn coming out the winner! The students were taught to respond to conflict using Jesus’ principles rather than attacking the other person or escaping. The “Donkey Assembly” will long be remembered! I think their favorite part was to pet Zack afterwards.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES
There is no school on Monday. Monday, October 28, is Parent/Teacher Conferences. If you have not returned your conference slip indicating the times you would be available to meet, please send it to school tomorrow. Please arrive in a timely manner so that you are available when it is time for your scheduled conference. We look forward to meeting with each of you!

SPIRIT DAY
You still have time to participate in the Cowboy/Western Spirit Day on Friday, October 25. Need ideas? Cowboy hats, bandanas, flannel shirts, boots, blue jeans, etc. Participating is optional, but if you choose to refrain from joining the fun of the day the usual EAS uniform will be required. Friday will be a full day of school with dismissal at 2:00 PM

BIRTHDAY FRIDAY
October 25 is also Birthday Friday and those with October birthdays will be recognized. Everybody will be able to participate in the birthday treat that will be provided that day.

POSTER/COLORING CONTEST
This month, we are focusing on Peace as the Fruit of the Spirit. Each classroom designed a poster (grades K-1 did a coloring contest) based on Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good.” The winners are:
Kindergarten: Caroline McKenzie
First Grade: Jacqui Kopstein
Second Grade: Johanna Pinero
Third Grade: Eva Martinez
Fourth Grade: Sofia Dedmondt
Fifth Grade: Jessica Decker
Sixth Grade: Elle Colburn
Seventh & Eighth Grade: Craig Pruitt
Judging was done by someone not associated with the room, While certain posters were labeled “first place”, EVERYONE was a winner and did outstanding work!

JACKETS
With the cooler change in the weather, many days may be a little cool without a jacket, sweater, or EAS hoodie. Please help your son/daughter remember to bring something to keep them warm on days when they will be outside.

Don’t forget to ask your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers as well. Also, this would be a great time to make sure these same people have downloaded the Box Tops for Education app and are scanning their receipts so their purchases are getting counted toward EAS.
