6th-8th Grade “I Have a Dream” Performances
The 6th-8th grade students have been practicing a performance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. Their first performance is on Sabbath, February 27, at the Spartanburg SDA Church. Students need to be at the church no later than 10:00 a.m. Young men should wear black dress pants, white shirts, and black belts and dress shoes. Mr. Claus will supply black bow ties. The young ladies should wear a black skirt, white blouse, and black dress shoes. They may also wear a black dress. The second performance is at the Greenville SDA Church on March 6. We need as many parents as possible to drive that day. We will meet at the Greenville SDA Church at 10:00 a.m. Dress will be the same as the first performance. If your child will need transportation, please let Mr. Claus know.
Pine Car Kits Available Now!
Pine car kits are available in the office now. The basic blocks and wedges are $5.00 each, and the pre-shaped kits are $10.00 each. If you have not purchased your car yet, do so soon! If your child needs help cutting the basic block kit to their desired shape, Mr. Claus can help. Just let him know.
Pine Car Derby Fundraiser
EAS has kicked off a Pine Car Derby Fundraiser. This is a fun project for students and parents to enjoy together.
There are three ways to win! Trophies and prizes will be awarded for speed, creativity and design, and top fundraisers.
Each student is encouraged to design and to make at least one pinewood derby car to enter into the race. Pine car kits are available from the office or online.
The fundraising part consists of students distributing at least twenty fundraising letters requesting sponsorships for their car(s) to relatives, church members, parent’s work colleagues, and neighbors. In the packets that each student received, there are twenty fundraising letters. Please have your student write a personalized request in the space at the bottom of the letter. If a child would like to write one letter and make twenty copies, the school can help. Those that sponsor the student can mail their sponsorship money to the school or give it to the student to bring to school.
EAS has passed out packets containing information, tips and twenty fundraising letters to each family. If you have not received one, please let the office know. Pine car kits are available in the office. The cost of a basic block or wedge kit is $5.00. The cost of the preshaped kits $10.00.
The purposes of this fundraiser are to provide families a fun project to enjoy together and to raise funds to purchase interactive smart boards for each classroom. Thank you for your participation.
UPDATE: Congratulations to Jordan Crossley for being the top fundraiser to date! She just received a $100 sponsorship from Maryland!
